It Takes Concentration to Retain Facts

I usually forget something because I am not paying attention in the first place. I condemn my memory when I really should be blaming my lack of concentration. Names, faces, and facts first enter short-term memory and usually stay there less than a minute. I just realized that to transfer the information into long-term memory, I must focus on it for a minimum of eight seconds.
