Have you seen the movie “We Were Soldiers”? The story was based on a true to life story of Lt. Colonel More and his men – 400 young fathers, husbands, brothers and sons from an elite American combat division – who were surrounded by 2,000 North Vietnamese soldiers in a small clearing known as the Valley of Death.
After a long, fierce, gory battle, the Americans killed 1,800 of the Vietnamese and took the rest as prisoners of war. Towards the end of the movie, right after the American victory, was correspondents swarm around Moore asking him how he won, Moore just stares at the reporters and then quietly walks away. What he didn’t tell them were the details we see throughout the movie – his combat strategies, his quick and smart decisions, the bravery of his men, the rigorous training they went through before going to war.
