Just recently, a friend of mine was “cliqued”. Let my story explain what that means.
This friend was only marginally involved with Filipino community, a key fact not appreciated by its members. A member of that community was good friends with the wife of one of its leaders. This member had something against my friend and told tales about her to that leader’s wife. The wife told her husband who, in turn, took it up with his co-leaders and before long, a full-blown character assassination against my friend was gaining steam.
I felt really sorry for my friend. Especially because she had not committed acts similar to murder, theft or rape. And she knew that the very leaders that had spoken against her weren’t lily white in character. In fact, they were in the same boat as her.
